One of Monrovia's oldest homes, this Queen Anne Victorian which also has Colonial Revival influences, was built in 1887 and originally owned by a bookkeeper to William N. Monroe, founder of Monrovia. Originally, the home was located just yards away at the corner of Magnolia and Hillcrest, and was moved to its present location sometime between 1904 and 1908. The single-story home was built by the Tifal Brothers, well-known and respected builders in Monrovia in the early 20th century. This home also has a Batchelder fireplace. | VIEW BATCHELDER SLIDESHOW To view a larger image of the home, click on the photo. At the September 16, 2014 meeting of the Monrovia City Council, the council members seconded the prior action of the Historic Preservation Commission and designated two more homes as local landmarks. This makes five landmarks added in less than a year and a half.
